Tungnath Temple

Tungnath temple is the highest Lord Shiva Temple . Temple is considered to be 1000 years old. Tungnath temple is situated at an altitude of 3680 m above sea level. Temple can be reached easily by a trek of 4 km starting from Chopta.

Chopta, Tungnath and Chandrashila Trek

Chopta – Tungnath trek is accessible throughout the year it’s the snowfall which makes it difficult to trek but not impossible. Chopta – Tungnath trek is the shortest of all Panch Kedar trek routes and it’s distance can be covered in approximately 3 – 4 hours. Further 1.5 km is Chandrashila.

Chandrashila offers majestic 360 – degree view of Himalyan peaks such as Nanda Devi, Kedarnath, Chukhamba and Trishul.

You can also rent camps if you want to, else there are rooms available in Tugnath.

How to reach Tungnath

Delhi – chopta

By Road – Total distance from Delhi to Chopta is 403 km, can be reached via Rishikesh – Chamoli – Gopeshwar Chopta route. From Chopta you have to trek 4 km to reach Tungnath Temple and further 1.5 km to reach Chandrashila summit.

By Air – Closest airport is Jolly Grant airport, Dehradun from where Chopta will be left 178 km.

By Rail – Rishikesh Railway station is the closest to Chopta from Rishikesh you can reach Chopta only by Road.

Tungnath Temple Kapat opening dates

Tungnath Temple Kapat will open on 2nd May 2019 at 10:30 am. Temple is closed during festival of Diwali.

Best time to visit Chopta – Tungnath

Chopta – Tungnath trek is open throughout the year, you can wish to travel anytime of the year. it’s the snowfall which makes it difficult to trek but you can still make it to the top. Monsoon doesn’t act as any kind of problem for the trekkers.

Tungnath trek is the easiest trek among other Panch Kedar treks. Path is well laid out to the temple there are number of small shops along the way.
